Tallordle

About

Tallordle is a free daily ranking game. Every day there is one puzzle, the same for everyone: five rounds, and in each round six things to stack in order by some measure, such as mountains by height or films by release year. Every pair you put the right way round adds a floor to your tower, so a perfect day builds 75 floors and reaches space. When you finish, you see where your tower stands among everyone else's that day, and you can copy a result to share with friends.

How to play

Each round shows six items and a measure, such as "stack these mountains by height". Drag them into order with the biggest, tallest, oldest or heaviest at the top and the smallest at the bottom, then lock the order in, or let the thirty-second timer lock it for you. The round is scored by pairs: six items make fifteen pairs, and every pair you have the right way round adds a floor to your tower. A round in the perfect order scores fifteen floors; the starting order, which is deliberately muddled, scores far fewer. Five rounds make a possible 75 floors.

After each round the floors you earned stack onto the tower, and the view climbs with it, past the birds, the planes and the clouds, into the dark. When the fifth round is done, the view pulls back to show the whole tower against the rest of the day's builds, and you can copy a result to share. The rocket, plane, bird, building, tree and standing figure in a shared result are the five rounds in order: a rocket is a perfect round, a figure on the ground is a round that scored fewer than three floors.

There is one build a day, the same for everyone, and it changes at midnight in your own time zone. Once a day is over everywhere in the world its answers go into the archive, where you can see every round, the right order, the figures behind them and where those figures came from.

The facts

Each round's figures come from a published source, such as a national statistics office, a NASA fact sheet or an encyclopaedia's tables, and we leave out anything that depends on a definition sources disagree on. New sets of questions are added every week. If a figure looks wrong to you, use the "Report a problem with this data" link under the round and we will check it.

Who makes it

Tallordle is an independent project with no company behind it, built and run by one person, who also makes Bracketdle and Roguedle. It has no accounts and no sign-up, and it is paid for by a single advertisement that only appears once you have finished playing. The privacy page says exactly what the game stores.
